I have a granddad who did a hip replacement surgery recently, while he is recovering in hospital now, we are deciding if we should get him a domestic helper for 2 years or to get short term day caretaker for 2 to 3 months until he is mobile again.
Anyone with similar experiences to share?
I think it really depends on how independent your grand dad is and how comfortable he is with someone staying in the house with him.
Domestic helpers also take some time to arrive from the time you apply (especially for Philippines). If you need immediate help for a short term, I will say go with the short term caretaker path, Yes it is definitely more expensive per month, but your cost is going to be only for 2 to 3 months, thus a lower overall cost. If you think that your grand dad will have a long term assistance need, a domestic helper will be a better option. Having a domestic helper does come with its own issues, like managing the helper can be a problem.
